Title of research: Indexing and query processing of
spatio-temporal data
Supervisor: Dr. Dimitris Papadias
Comment from the Selection Panel: Dr. Tao has nine
publications coming out of his PhD thesis, with one accepted by
one of the most important journals in the Database area. Others
were published in prestigious conference proceedings in Computer
Science. Several papers have also been submitted to top journals.
Dr. Tao is very bright and has excellent potential.
To reward young scientists and engineers in Hong Kong who show great
promise in their field of study, with the hope that this will nurture
the growth of science and technology in the region.

Title of research: Molecular mimicry: anti-DNA antibodies
may arise inadvertently as a response to antibodies generated to
microorganisms
Supervisor: Prof. P.L. Lim
Comment from the Selection Panel: Dr. Wun's research
is original and innovative. The experimental approach is well reasoned
and meticulously carried out. Further studies on this subject may
lead to a better understanding of the autoimmune disorder of systemic
lupus erythematosus. Dr. Wun is encouraged to further pursue this
interesting research.
